いつものように相棒の金子（赤井英和）と管轄の密行パトロールに出動した沢村舞子（沢口靖子）は、現金強奪事件が発生したとの連絡を受ける。現場に赴くと、被害にあった黒岩豊（剛州）と逃走する強奪犯の車に接触し、軽い怪我を負った保険外交員の橋本節子（大島蓉子）が制服警官に保護されていた。調書を取る舞子と金子に黒岩は、貴金属商の取引で必要な現金1億円を銀行で降ろして店を出た矢先、帽子とマスクで顔を隠した2人組みの男に襲われたと話し、たまたま現場を通りがかったため逃走車に接触してしまった節子は、逃走車が白いワンボックスのワゴン車だったがナンバーまでは見ていなかったと供述。 　　調書を取り終えた舞子たちがパトロールへ戻ると、今度は近隣から爆音が轟き黒煙が上がった。すぐさま黒煙の発生場所へと急行。現場は自動車整備工場の資材置き場だ。舞子と金子が資材置き場の中へ飛び込むと、倒れている工場の社長・斉藤（螢雪次朗）を発見。さらに室内の奥に進むと、男が倒れていたがすでに絶命していた。 　　遺体を確認すると後頭部に血が付いており、近くにはレンチが落ちていた。死後硬直などの状況からも他殺だと判断した舞子は、鑑識の臨場要請を手配。また、斉藤の供述から、爆発は斉藤が出社して、資材置き場のスイッチを入れた瞬間に起こったことが判明。遺体は工場主任の貝塚昌治（芦川誠）という男だった。一方、富田（松尾諭）と佐藤（斉藤祥太）が現場周辺を捜索すると、事件の前の晩、貝塚が何者かと工場に向かっていく姿を見たとの目撃情報を得る。さらに、貝塚が住んでいた従業員用アパートのゴミ集積所から、血の付いたタオルが発見された。 　　その後、舞子たちは捜査一課の鬼塚（山崎銀之丞）と速水（神農直隆）に、初動捜査の報告を行い引き継ぐと再び密行へと戻った。舞子たちから捜査を引き継いだ鬼塚たちは、貝塚を目撃したコンビニ店員に防犯カメラの映像を確認させ、貝塚と一緒に工場に向かった男は、同じ工場に勤める伊崎健吾（大浦龍宇一）だったと突き止める。しかも伊崎は、10年前に殺人事件を起こして、刑務所に服役していた過去があった。ほどなく、鬼塚たちが伊崎の元を訪ねると、伊崎は既に行方をくらました後だった…。
